Oxford Midland League
Bicester players Tom Marrs and Joe McGivern in action in the Midland League. See John Birkin's October Report, below.
October saw the next round of Midland League matches, mostly away ÔÇô weÔÇÖve now played seven matches in all, but only two at home, at our new first class venue. Vets A had a free month, while Vets B travelled to Tamworth for their second Division 3 match, which brought a 7-3 victory, with Neil Hurford, Mark Scott and Nigel Taylor each winning two and Neil/Mark taking the doubles.
Thus our two Vets teams still have a 100% winning record.
The juniors played at the Rugby TTC Centre of Excellence (a club with over 60 juniors playing in fine conditions on 12 tables). The score-line was a replica of their first match at Hinckley (8-2), but reversed. Anthony Howgego and Tom Marrs salvaged the two wins; Joe McGivern was pleased to get a game off Matt Outhwaite, EnglandÔÇÖs no 12 ranked cadet, but normality was restored in the next game, as Matt conceded his first point when serving off at 10-0. ItÔÇÖs not much fun being outclassed, but Anthony battled well against Ryan Lines, their no 2, another excellent young player, and itÔÇÖs wonderful to see the sport flourishing so well at junior level not so far north of our own county.
The MenÔÇÖs team suffered a severe reverse, losing 0-10 at home to Walsall. We were represented by Jeremy Flint, Rob Williams and Roel Dullens.
ML Player of the Month: Mark Scott, making his first appearance for Oxford, and helping to keep Vets B at the top of their Division.
