NATIONAL JUNIOR LEAGUE (South) REPORT

1ST ROUND NOV 5TH, 2011

Kidlington Forum Juniors turned out in force for the 1st round of National Junior League (South), played at Cippenham TTC on Saturday, and exceeded all expectations. Our BoysÔÇÖ A team (Lewis Sumner, Jack Shardlow and Jonah Stott), playing in the 1st of the three divisions, fought out a tremendous battle with Southampton West A, shading it 5-4, as an earlier 4-0 lead disappeared. They went on to beat North Hertfordshire 8-1 and Reading A 6-3. Lewis led with the way with a scintillating 9/9, while both Jack and Jonah scored 5/9.

Our two girls, Teisi Tamming and Chloe Yau, played as Chiltern B in the GirlsÔÇÖ Division, along with Evie Foster (Kent). They won all their matches, with Teisi, in her first venture outside the local league, taking an impressive 8/9.

In the BoysÔÇÖ 2nd Division, our B team (Simon Price, Niall Harris and Cameron Patterson) made a very bright start, defeating Reading B 8-1. After another 8-1 win, they had a close call against Southampton West B, winning 5-4. Simon matched LewisÔÇÖs feat with 9/9; Niall won 7/9 and Cameron 5/9.

Ethan Ball and James Rowan came along as reserves, but with the late withdrawal of Filton Academy they were invited to form a team with another reserve, Luke Asquith (Chiltern), and had a whole dayÔÇÖs play in Division 2, winning one of their three matches, and so far doing just enough to keep their place in that division.

All in all, it was a splendid day for the Forum contingent of 10, the best I can remember since I took over the City Juniors just over two years ago.
