BTTC Senior Open 2026 — Tournament Report
Bicester and District Table Tennis Club hosted the BTTC Senior Open 2026 — a one-day event for 16 players across four tables, with group round-robins feeding a main knockout (top two per group), a 3rd place playoff between semi-final losers, and a consolation draw for group thirds.
Format
- 16 players in 4 groups of 4
- Each group: round-robin, best of 5 sets (games to 11)
- Main draw: top two from each group — quarter-finals, semi-finals, final, plus 3rd place playoff
- Consolation: 3rd place from each group — semi-finals and final
- First-round knockout umpires: 4th place from each group (per the published draw)

Group 1 (Table 1)

Peter Williamson was dominant, dropping only nine games across three matches. Adrian Portlock took second. Paul Bannister did not play his group matches (walkovers recorded for opponents).

Dan Shaw topped the group comfortably. Daniel Smith edged Terry Goddard for second after two five-setters involving Georgios Kalogeropoulos — both his losses to Smith and Goddard went the distance.

Greg Swan lost only one set all day in the groups (to Graham Butcher). Graham Butcher took the second qualifying spot; Angela Harriott finished third and entered the consolation.

The crossover draw kept group rivals apart until the final.

Semi-finals
- Greg Swan bt Peter Williamson 3–1 (11-3, 8-11, 9-11, 9-11) — Williamson took the opener before Swan won three tight sets
- Dan Shaw bt Matt Boddington 3–1 (5-11, 2-11, 11-5, 9-11) — Boddington led two sets to love before Shaw came back
Final
- Greg Swan bt Dan Shaw 3–0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-6)
Swan and Shaw were the form players from the groups and carried that into the closing stages. The final was competitive throughout, with no set decided by more than three points.
3rd place playoff
Semi-final losers Peter Williamson and Matt Boddington played off for bronze.

Williamson rounded off a strong day with a clear win after his semi-final defeat to Swan.
Consolation (group 3rd places)
Salman Khan, Feng Qu, Terry Goddard and Angela Harriott contested the secondary knockout.

- Feng Qu bt Terry Goddard 3–2 (3-11, 12-10, 9-11, 12-10, 11-0) — a marathon match, with Goddard pushing Feng all the way
Final
- Feng Qu bt Salman Khan — walkover (Salman Khan did not play)
Feng Qu takes the consolation title. Khan’s run included a hard-fought semi-final win over Harriott.

Notes from the day
- Walkovers: Paul Bannister and Lewis Sumner did not play their group matches; opponents were awarded walkover wins. In the consolation final, Salman Khan did not play, and Feng Qu was awarded the title.
